Synopsis

Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) issued a circular dated 2 January 2021, that all fire pumps shall comply with the requirements of Malaysian Standard, MS 2616:2015 – Fixed fire fighting systems – Fire pumpsets. With this directive, all fire pumps installed in the country will have to be approved by Bomba. In order to obtain the approval, Bomba requires the fire pumps have to go through tests and certification process to be carried out by an accredited testing laboratory. All local test laboratories are to be accredited by Jabatan Standard Malaysia in order to be recognised by Jabatan Bomba.

As proof of compliance, Jabatan Bomba requires the Forms C1, C2 and C3 to be submitted together with the application for inspection for obtaining the clearance letter from Bomba before the Certificate of Completion and Compliance can be issued.

This webinar is to introduce the requirements for fire pumps to comply with MS 2616. It will also briefly describe the process of obtaining certification of the fire pumps from a locally accredited testing laboratory.

Speakers' Biodata

Ir. Wong See Foong

Ir. Wong See Foong graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malaya in 1974 and has been involved in fire safety engineering over the
past 40 years. He is a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate registered with
the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and is presently a partner in MEP Engineering Sdn Bhd, an engineering consultancy firm.

Ir Wong is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and also a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (U.K.), Malaysian Branch. He is chairing the Technical Committee under the National Standards Committee (M) of Jabatan Standard Malaysia, for the drafting of Malaysian standards for fire fighting systems and equipment. He also actively assisted the Fire and Rescue Department in drafting the proposed amendments to the Uniform Building By-laws, 1984.

Mr. Chong Seet Huang, Jeffery

Mr. Jeffery Chong Seet Huang graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of South Australia in 2007. In 2015, he obtained his Master in Management and Master in Marketing from the University of South Australia. He started his career with an Australian State Government in a water department agency from year 2008 until 2014, during which he developed a solid technical knowledge and practical experience in laboratory analysis.

Jeffery has collective ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory service experience over more than 10 years in multiple analytical fields such as microbiology, chemistry & mechanical. He is now operating Standardmark Laboratory Sdn. Bhd, an MS ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory registered with the Jabatan Standard Malaysia. In addition, he is a certified ISO/IEC 17025 internal auditor by Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM) and a registered food analyst with Ministry of Health Malaysia.
